![]() ![]() Promitto - The dilapidated once-glorious city.Promitto is the city that Veloxia is guardian and provider of. However, since she is out of commission for the most part, many of the modern amenities of the city are simply not working. They can't run without her at full capacity, after all. Running water is one of the few things she's been able to keep running, but barely. Power is a commodity, whether it comes from steam engines or the island's Ellenium deposits, and the only reliable places are the many charging stations for the communication handhelds, called Steamgears. These stations (sometimes referred to as "vents", "docks", or "steam chargers") are scattered throughout the entirety of Promitto, but hacking them for use other than their original design rarely ends well. Jingfei, the mechanic, is working to restore the broken parts of the city rather than Veloxia herself, because she knows that without the resources to survive, nothing will get done. Promitto is divided up into five sections, the Merchant Quarter (Gold South), the Factory Quarter (Black West), the Residential Quarter (Red East), the Arts Quarter (Blue North), and Veloxia's Courtyard (White Center). The areas are color-coded to make identification of each section easier; it's a fairly sizeable city, after all, and a number of people once lived and worked here. Promitto is designed to look like a wheel, with the “spokes” being huge roads that the other streets branch off of. These roads also all lead inward to Veloxia's tower where the tech centers of the city are. Sophie the programmer is often within the white district of Veloxia's Courtyard, as she fears to stray from the machine that could have a fatal error at any moment. Merchant Quarter - Gold South The Merchant Quarter is right off the docks of the Port of Promitto, as it was only logical to place the center of commerce near to where the shipments of goods would be coming in, as well to have easy access to ships for exports. The Merchant Quarter stands as empty as the rest of Promitto, but the shops and artisan places of work are untouched and serviceable. If one is looking for things such as sewing tools or a good book to read, the Merchant Quarter is a good place to start digging. Factory Quarter - Black West The Factory Quarter is exactly what it says on the tin; this area of the city is dominated by factories and forges. Where the Merchant Quarter caters to luxuries, the Factory Quarter is what produces the raw materials and heavy machinery for construction, as well as the gadgets designed to make life easier. (Or at least, it used to.) The entrance to the mines underneath the island is here, and it is the only part still functioning as drones dive deep to find the coal and Ellenium needed to keep the city running. Residential Quarter - Red East The Residential Quarter is where the residents of Promitto used to live. It's empty now, just as everything else is, but each home is fully furnished. You may even find personal effects such as clothes, jewelry, and photographs left in these houses. The buildings themselves vary greatly in size and architectural aesthetic, but each one is serviceable should anyone want to claim an abandoned home for themselves. There is no compulsion to live within this district however, as Veloxia doesn't really care where you set up camp. (Besides, Sophie, Jingfei, and Carcina aren't going to tell you that you can't go camping if you REALLY want to, you know?) Arts Quarter - Blue North The Arts Quarter is Promitto's district dedicated to the finer things in life. This area is full of elaborate gardens, museums of various kinds, and plentiful art installations. There are small studios thrown about the Arts Quarter, but the most curious building is a mansion set within it, surrounded by high fences and locked up tight. Carcina, the biologist, can oftentimes be found wandering about the district, investigating the wildlife there. Veloxia's Courtyard - White Center Veloxia's Courtyard is the technological center of Promitto. The tower that juts from the exact center of the city towers over every other structure, and this is where Veloxia makes her home. The computer actually takes up the bulk of the tower, but at the very top there is an interface where one may speak directly to the guardian of Promitto. She has an automaton “face” who is wired directly into her mainframe and can report on the condition of the computer and the city. The view from atop the tower is said to be breathtaking... well, as long as you're not afraid of heights. The Island - A highly-charged, energy-rich, risky isle. There are areas outside of Promitto that may be of interest to those Veloxia has drawn in to help her. The flatlands and forests around the city house the main food supply, that automatons and drones have been caring for and harvesting even in the absence of people. The flora and fauna of the island should be harmless, but travelers going beyond the city will still be warned to take care--Ellenium is known to have strange effects, after all. Old Light Old Light is the lighthouse that stands on the northeast edge of the island, overlooking the Seiren's Reef. The lighthouse is far older than even Promitto itself, as it was built to warn ships that may have lost their way that the dangerous reef was just off shore. It's moderately sized and not to hard to get into, but it is dusty, and in disrepair due to it being unused in recent years. Despite that, most of the structure is still in decent condition, though it could probably use a few minor repairs here and there. Seiren's Rock Seiren's Rock is a tiny island-ette off the coast of the main island and west of the reef which shares it's name. While it seems like an ordinary pile of rocks is rumored to be more. It's said that mermaids frequent Seiren's Rock, and their songs are how the place came to be named. Regardless of the truth behind these tales, this tiny island is the only one not connected to the mainland. Roc's Rest Roc's Rest is the island-ette connected to the mainland that's closest to Seiren's Rock. While the giant birds of lore don't actually make their nests here, many other migratory and seabound birds do. It's a pretty place to wander through, especially if you're a fan of feathered friends, but doesn't have much to offer beyond that. Serpent's Isles The Serpent's Isles are a collection of island-ettes on the southeast coast of the island. They're also connected to the mainland. The Isles have their own share of rumors, but none of the stories surrounding it have any proof to them. (Then again, anyone that might know is no longer in the city, and Veloxia certainly doesn't remember anything.) The island-ettes are beautiful, but also unremarkable, for the most part; there isn't much to do here. The Great Storm This huge storm system surrounds the island at all hours, every day of the year, preventing anyone from coming either by sea or by air. Any attempts to breach it will most likely end in death--it's because of this that the inhabitants of Terra have been unable to explore Promitto since its "disappearance". The storm also functions as a barrier to keep those stuck on the island inside: unless its dispelled somehow or it clears up, it's unlikely anyone will be leaving this island alive. Terra - Earth's distant sister. The world of Terra is not unlike ours, although it can be said its landmasses and its people, though similar to us, are still quite different all the same. We have provided a temporary map of the world in relation to Promitto to give players an idea of what it's like. (The moderators apologize for how bare-bones this page is. As soon as we are able, we will have a nicer one up with more setting info, pictures, and possibly more maps that'll give you a feel for the setting.) ![]() ![]() NAVIGATION |
